Amenia’s Jewish Immigrants the Early 20th Century
Betsy Strauss shares her findings on the immigrant story of Jews who settled in the rural northeast Dutchess County Town of Amenia, just after the turn of the last century. Through the stories of families like the Osoffsky family, whose descendants still live in the area, Strauss shares the Jewish immigrant story we are more accustomed to hearing about in the lower East Side of Manhattan. Strauss is a long-serving Amenia Historical Society member, researcher, speaker and author, she is the winner of the 2018 Dutchess County Historical Society’s Helen Wilkinson Reynolds Award for the pursuit of historical truth.
